There is good news for the Mediterranean Monk Seal (Monachus monachus). Recently, around 30 baby monk seals have been born around the islands of Greece, according to the Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal.

The female seals chose the Aegean islands of Kimolos, Tinos, Karpathos and Thasos, as well as some coastal areas on the mainland, to give birth to their pups. Monk Seals are listed as a critically endangered species with only 500 individuals known to exist, and half of these are in Greece, where their most important habitats are located.
