Mooiste dorp op Kreta
Burgemeesters praten over het mooiste dorp

Alle dorpen hebben één ding gemeen: hun schoonheid !!

What do the villages of Hersonissos, Episkopi, Smari, Anatoli and Limnes have in common?

Why, it’s their beauty, of course!

 De burgemeesters in vergadering bijeen

A meeting of all the mayors who participate in the "The Most Beautiful Villages of Crete Association" took place recently at the traditional village of Hersonissos, the seat of the association. The representatives of the Cretan municipalities affiliated with the association collected some valuable experiences, ideas and proposals.

The mayors were attentive to the words of guest speaker, Umberto Forte, Director of “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy Association,” who discussed the exceptional achievements of his group and presented examples of organising small settlements, with visible and substantial results, for a “quality fuel-injection” in the tourism industry.

Municipalities from all over
Crete, which featured one traditional village each, are the founding members of the association. Among them are the municipalities of Aghios Nikolaos, Ierapetra, Kasteli, Episkopi and Hersonissos.

“At a moment when everyone is searching for answers in the impasse of current tourism in Crete, together with the progressive loss of Cretan landscape, our association underlines the necessity of proposals and policies that can check and deter the continuation of a dead-end course not only through theoretical approaches but mainly through some definitive action,” said Hersonissos Mayor Yiorgos Danelakis.
