Ook op Kreta herdenkt men de helden van toen.
Church dignitaries joined together with local residents and government officials to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the Battle of Crete, and the significant Battle of Kopsa, fought in the Anopoli area.
The ceremonies, held at the Holy Church of the Prophet Ilia in Anopoli, just several hundred meters from the site of the actual fighting, were organized by the Gouves municipality and the Anopolis and Gournes cultural associations.
The celebration included commemorative prayer attended by The Right Reverend Archbishop of Crete Irineos, official greeting from Gouves Mayor Yiorgos Nikolakakis, dignitaries and guests placing wreaths at the memorial monument and the students from the Iraklion Music School playing Cretan music.
